Book in class: Paper Bag Princess
Good tool: Brain storm on what fairy tales have in common:
ex.
-one parent is missing or dead
-main character is in a difficult situation
-supernatural/magic events occur to the main character
-clear distinction between good & evil
-happy ending for the main character mostly, family sometimes
-most of the time the main character is gullible
-main character is usually a woman & is forced to do housework
-some characters are put into difficult situations while others put themselves in situations
-some characters can get themselves out of their situations while other needs assistance
-when getting out of a situation, the character can he resourceful
-characters look beyond skin deep and don't judge others on looks
I liked the riddle project also after a few fairy tale readings:
You will write a riddle whose answer is ______
Write a riddle or a poem that explains which story you were given by describing which stories this story is NOT. In other words, all of your clues must come from the stories that aren’t your story.
You may not use titles, but you may use characters’ names.
ex.
Not a magic basket in this one, nor a single beggar impersonator.
There are no large gates or moats.
No courageous brothers a top horses will come to save the day.
Not a single bloody basin or axe.
